Welcome to the future location for the artwork of Lawrence Mathis. Lawrence has for many years been a professional visual artist, represented in galleries and collections across the United Sates. He has also worked for the last few years as a Design Partner in the Chattanooga firm Mathis-Ewing Architecture. Travels around Europe and the US have exposed Lawrence to a wealth of public space precedent, and he sees architecture itself as public art. In the past he has taught children at the Hunter museum and taught as an Adjunct Professor at UTC. An example of his public art is the result of the 1996 masonry competition Laid In Public, called Opportunity for Conversation. This much interacted with, simple sculpture is located at the Corner of Market Street and MLK.
